Technical Guide: How to Select and Use the Right Nodulizer for Ductile Iron

1. Comprehensive Product Varieties:

Based on different casting requirements, we offer several specialized series:

* National Standard Series (5-2 to 8-7): Featuring Magnesium (Mg) content from 4.5% up to 8.5% and Calcium (Ca) from 1.5% to 3.0%. These are ideal for electric furnace and cupola melting.

* Cast State Nodulizer: Specifically designed for QT series (like QT400-18 and QT600-3), ensuring high elongation and tensile strength.

* Specialty Alloys: We also provide Yttrium-based heavy rare earth nodulizers for thick-section castings and Wind Power Generation Casting nodulizers with uniform graphite distribution.

2. Key Selection Criteria:

Choosing the right nodulizer depends on the molten iron weight and temperature:

* Particle Size: For molten iron < 500kg, use 5-15mm/5-20mm. For > 500kg, use 5-25mm/5-30mm.

* Temperature Control: Spheroidization treatment is most effective between 1440°C and 1520°C (up to 1550°C for certain series).

* RE (Rare Earth) Content: High RE nodulizers are recommended for base iron with high interfering elements like V, Cr, or Ti.

3. Precautions for Injection (The Spheroidized Lines Method):

To maximize the Mg absorption rate, the "Sandwich" (pour-over) method is widely used. The nodulizer should be placed in a dam at the bottom of the ladle, covered with iron scrap or inoculants. This prevents the nodulizer from directly rushing into the molten iron too early, ensuring a controlled reaction and higher purity.
